(New Britain, PA) – Attorneys from Sweet, Stevens, Katz & Williams LLP will serve as presenters at the Lehigh University College of Education 42nd Special Education Law Conference.  The conference will take place on Friday, May 9, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. at Lehigh's Mountantop Campus in Iacocca Hall.

This one-day program will include sessions on new state evaluation standards; mental health issues in schools; legal issues pertaining to students with concussions and traumatic brain injuries; wish lists for parents and schools; legal aspects of FAPE and related services; expert witnesses; independent educational evaluations; interscholastic athletics and other extracurricular activities for students with eisabilities; zero tolerance; eligibility and FAPE under the IDEA / § 504 and state law; attendance issues along with legal complexities; and ethics for attorneys.  The event is geared toward school administrators, special education teachers, counselors, school psychologists, school board members, attorneys, caseworkers, hearing officers and parents.

Partner Jane Williams and Senior Associate David Conn will moderate and participate in a discussion entitled "Gender Identity - Legal Intersections with Students with Disabilities."  With society as a whole becoming increasingly aware of the complex issues concerning gender identity, schools are now on the front lines for these issues in relation to children.  The attorneys will review what schools can (or must) do to meet the needs of transgender students -  or any students - strugging with gender identity issues.

Attorneys who attend are eligible for 5.5 CLE credits.  For more information on the conference, visit http://www.lehigh.edu/specialseminars/about.shtml.
